Chocolate Chip Cookies

These beautiful, and somehow vegan, chocolate chip cookies are from a new vendor here in Fredericton called Vegan Haven Fredericton. If you could taste these cookies you would be asking yourself, ‘how tf are these people new?!’ These are some of the most delicious, chewy and decadent chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had! They can only be compared to a cookie you would find in a specialty bake shop!

I was sold on these chocolate chip cookies from Vegan Haven Fredericton the second I tasted them. Although we sampled chocolate cookies and cake prior to this, nothing caught my taste bud’s attention the way their classic chocolate chip cookies did! And I’m usually a chocolate or die type of person, so you know this shit is legit. The first thing I thought when I tasted these was ‘WOW this is a sobeys cookie!!’ Upon further inspection, I realized this was an offensive comparison; Vegan Haven’s version of the classic, chewy & thick, bakery style cookie was far superior to anything Sobeys could ever create. These cookies were thick, rich, and chewy af! They had a really rich, buttery, shortbread-y taste to them, it was hard to believe they were vegan! They were also very generous with the chocolate chunks, something that’s seemingly hard to come by. The thick chunks of chocolate were the perfect mix of crunchy, and tender. They also added so much depth to the flavour! I don’t know where they got these magical chocolate chunks but I need a tub of them immediately.

The outside of these cookies was very firm and crunchy, while the inside was basically cookie dough! When you bite into them, they crumble into pieces, but not in a bad way. They don’t fall apart and leave crumbs everywhere, but they come apart into nice, decedent chunks. These were so thick, when you break them open it’s almost like having a slab of fluffy cookie dough, wrapped in a buttery cookie. The bottom was extra crispy and golden brown, almost caramelized tasting. Potentially related to the butter-y taste I was noticing. It was a nice contrast in texture to the tender inside. Another thing I loved about the texture of these cookies was how chewy they were! The cookies looked kinda small but they were so dense and chewy, so it was actually a lot of cookie! The texture of these was probably my favorite type of cookie texture, although I’m still not sure how they accomplish it! It’s the type of texture cookies from specialty bakeries have!

The presentation of these cookies let me know right away that they were my favorite type of cookie; they’re thick af! They have the thick edges and an even thicker centre, you can tell they held their cookie dough shape really well, and didn’t flatten / spread out while cooking. On top of this, they have the most beautiful crust, it’s the exact golden and light finish you expect a cookie to be! Quite a bit lighter in colour than most store bought cookies, so you can tell they’re homemade, and what’s better than a homemade cookie?! These cookies are also loaded with chocolate chunks, you can see a lot of them on the surface, but there are even more hidden inside since they’re so thick! One of the best parts of the presentation of these was how dark and crunchy the bottoms got! It is so enticing, basically just begging to be eaten.!

I almost feel like it’s rude to rate a cookie on its nutritional profile. Cookies don’t even go to the stomach, they go to the heart, so it doesn’t even matter? You can tell these things are loaded with butter and other rich, decedent ingredients, but that’s okay, because if you’re going to splurge on a cookie, it better be a good one! And I can confirm, these cookies were well worth the sugar intake!! So given the nature of this review, I’m going to give these cookies a 10/10 on nutrition, not because they’re actually healthy, but because they fulfilled a place in my heart no vegetables ever could.

You don’t have to give an arm and a leg to get the best vegan cookies in town- but I would to get these! Vegan Haven has really fair prices for all of their treats and these cookies are no exception. We got a pack of 4 for only $5! Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to spend $5 on market day, we approve of their pricing model and we will definitely be back to try more and more treats after this experience.
