Vegan Garlic Knots

Vegan garlic bread taken to the next level, in the form of fluffy, buttery, vegan garlic knots! Tie pizza dough into knots and coat with vegan garlic butter; it’s that easy!

Before You Begin

  • 4 servings
  • Prep: 25 mins
  • Cook: 15 mins
  • Total: 1 hour 20 mins

Garlic Pizza Dough

  • 1 cup Warm Water
  • ½ tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 ¼ tsp Yeast (or one packet)
  • 2 ½ cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 tbsp Parsley Flakes
  • 1 tbsp Oregano
  • 2 tsp Minced Garlic

Vegan Garlic Butter

  • ¼ cup Vegan Butter (melted)
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Parsley Flakes
  • ½ tbsp Oregano

Vegan Garlic Knots

  • ½ Ball of Pizza Dough (refrigerate leftovers or double recipe to use all dough)
  • ¼ cup Vegan Garlic Butter
  • ⅓ cup Vegan Mozzarella Cheese

Garlic Pizza Dough

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, sugar, oil, and yeast. Let sit for 15 minutes so the yeast can activate.
  2. Pour in the flour, salt, garlic powder, parsley flakes, oregano, and minced garlic.
  3. Using the dough hook attachment on low speed (2), mix the wet and dry ingredients together until the dough begins to form.
  4. Turn speed up to medium (3-4), let knead for 6-8 minutes.
  5. Remove dough from dough hook, place in bowl and form into a ball. Pour a bit of oil (roughly 1/2 tbsp) over the dough and coat the bottom and sides of the bowl so it doesn't stick when it rises.
  6. Cover with a tea towel and place in a warm place to rise for 40 minutes to one hour. I like to preheat the oven on low, then turn it off and open the oven door to let some heat escape. Once the oven is cooled slightly, I stick the bowl in there to let the dough rise.

Vegan Garlic Butter

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low to medium heat.
  2. Mix in garlic powder, parsley flakes, and oregano.

Vegan Garlic Knots

  1. Preheat oven to 420, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Once the dough has risen - roughly doubled in size - cut it in half (if you plan on using the full dough, double the rest of the ingredients).
  3. Cut the dough into 4-8 evenly-sized pieces - depending on how big you want your garlic knots to be. Roll the pieces of dough into balls, then roll into a long strip.
  4. Tie the dough into knots and place them on the baking sheet.
  5. Brush the knots with the garlic butter. Top with vegan cheese and/or simulated bacon bits.
  6. Bake at 420 for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with marina sauce to dip!

  • You can omit the spices in the pizza dough for a less garlicky version, but I definitely recommend adding at least the garlic!
  • If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can knead the dough by hand, following the same procedure.
  • To get the tops golden brown, broil at 450 for 2-3 minutes at the end of the cooking time.
  • I used Follow Your Heart Mozzarella Shreds in these garlic knots! It’s pretty much the only vegan cheese I like, it’s super neutral and melts pretty well!
